The ISS2020 will be organized at AIST Tsukuba, Japan. You can join in the Symposium at venues or virtual meeting rooms.
The registration has started, being free of charge.
Important Message
Prof Nicholas Long and Dr Haruhiko Obara, General Chair and Co-chair of ISS2020 respectively, regret to announce that the symposium will not be held this year in Wellington, New Zealand.
The global situation with COVID-19 and the extreme disruption to international travel means participants cannot plan for their attendance with sufficient confidence.
At present all travel by non-residents to New Zealand is suspended and it is unclear what restrictions may be in place throughout 2020.
In response to this situation the conference organizers made decision to relocate the ISS2020 to AIST Tsukuba, Japan.
At present, the ISS2020 is planned to be organized in conference rooms at AIST Tsukuba, and also in virtual conference rooms on Webex. We would welcome you to the ISS2020 in both conference rooms – AIST Tsukuba or Web Meeting.

新型コロナウイルスの影響が全世界に拡大し、現時点で収束の見通しが見えない状況が続いています。
すでにご案内の通り、ISS2020事務局は、ニュージーランド/ビクトリア大学関係者とISS2020の開催について、綿密に協議を行うとともに、General Chair、Program委員長と調整を行ってまいりました。
その結果、諸般の状況を鑑み、以下を結論とすることで合意いたしました。
| （１） | 2020年11月の国際超電導シンポジウム（ISS2020）の開催地を、ニュージーランド／ウェリントンからつくば（産総研）へと変更する。 ※開催日は 12月01日～03日とする。 |
| （２） | ニュージーランドウェリントンでの開催は、2021年11月23日～25日で再設定する。 |
なお、つくばでの開催については、安全に開催できることを確実なものとするため、
| A） | ポスターセッション、企業展示、バンケット等の３密の原因となる企画は計画しません。したがって、すべての発表は口頭発表となります。 |
| B） | 産総研つくばセンターでの会議開催を引き続き目指しますが、国内の移動制限および海外からの来日の制限が続くことも想定されるため、WEB会議室（Webex Meetingシステム）でのご講演に同意いただける場合は、WEBでの登壇を受け付ける予定です。（当初、招待講演者のみを想定しておりましたが、すべての研究発表について、WEBでの登壇による口頭発表を受け付けることに変更する予定です） |
なお、参加費につきましては、無料としますが、Proceedings論文を提出される方には、別途、論文掲載料をご負担いただく予定です。

It is my great honor to open announcement for the 33rd International Symposium on Superconductivity (ISS2020), to be organized in AIST Tsukuba, Japan with virtual meeting rooms. It is a very exciting experience for us since this is the first opportunity organizing the conference with real and virtual meeting rooms, preventing the COVID-19. This ISS2020 is planned to be co-organized by the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) and the Victoria University of Wellington (VUW).
In January 1988, just after the discovery of high-temperature superconductors, International Superconductivity Technology Center (ISTEC) was established to actively engage in promoting widespread R&D as well as investigations ranging from fundamental research to the application of superconductivity. ISTEC had annually organized ISS since the first Symposium held in August 1988. After ISTEC had completed their missions in June 2016, AIST has succeeded the organization of the ISS, and ISS2016–ISS2019 were successfully organized by AIST with global superconductivity community.
It would be very appreciated if you could understand your inconveniences for presentation preferences since we need to assign all the presentations to be oral. We would also eliminate all the social events at venue.
I sincerely hope that the ISS2020 would be organized successfully with joining many aggressive scientists, students, and industrial engineers with fruitful discussions innovating new superconducting businesses.

However, the methodology of social innovation has been changed from “closed in domestic” to “open in global” in these 20 years. So, we have decided to expand the ISS to be more global. The venue of the ISS should be expanded in Asia-Pacific region in the next decade. I sincerely hope that the ISS2020 would be organized successfully with joining many aggressive scientists, students, and industrial engineers with fruitful discussions innovating new superconducting businesses.

Tēnā Koutou. It is my pleasure to accept the opportunity to be the local host for ISS2020. The symposium has a history going back to 1988 following the discovery of high-temperature superconductivity. The Robinson Research Institute, Victoria University of Wellington also dates its history to the same time, beginning as a research team to investigate the new superconductors.
The participants of ISS have previously expressed a desire to hold the symposium in Asia-Pacific cities outside Japan. We are honoured that the organizers have chosen Wellington, New Zealand as the first venue outside Japan. We accept the offer to be hosts as an acknowledgement of the long-term commitment of NZ researchers and the NZ government to the scientific and technical progress of superconductivity.
The Superconductivity School will be run as usual, so we welcome as many students as possible to attend. The ISS is also committed to contributing to solving the problems of society through our research and innovation. The symposium this year will continue to promote this aspect of the mission of the research community.
We look forward to seeing distinguished scientists, engineers, students and company representatives gather at ISS 2020. Wellington is the political and cultural capital of New Zealand. I hope participants will take the time to visit some local attractions and experience what our country has to offer. The symposium is to be held at our national museum, Te Papa, where you can enjoy the arts and culture of New Zealand.
